Description
The Nazi Paratrooper Knife’s blade opens by utilizing a unique scissors design. The articulated and symmetrically segmented handle folds away on both sides to grip the longer blade tang. The manner is similar to a balisong knife or butterfly knife which the paratrooper knife is often confused with. However, unlike the butterfly knife’s handles that swing independently and freely, the paratrooper knife uses a pantograph linkage to keep the handles aligned during opening and closing. The mechanism has a collar that travels up and down the blade that is then locked in place with a catch.
The paratrooper knife is very strong when compared to other folding knife designs because it is joined at several points and along several planes. This pantographic design increases the force necessary to break the blade away from the handle. Also because the blade is enclosed on both sides when closed a double edged blade is able to be used used.
